                                     BUILDING BLOCKS OF CAREER..

After the first lecture with Dr. Mandi, I was eagerly waiting for the next class. Every class turns out to be a new and an interesting  experience. The lecture gave gyaan about the levels of management and the levels of performance management. It taught about how working in a team or working individually could affect the outcome.  The class started with the students being given wooden cubes to build a tower. The students were supposed to build a tower with the help of small cubes by placing one over the other and once a cube falls then the game is UP.

There were two cases. Once the person is Blindfolded and  in another case the person is open eyed. In each case people had set a target to accomplish. The students were asked to follow certain RULES while building the TOWER . The students had to build the tower with one cube as base and placing one cube at a time. The blindfolded person had to build the tower by placing the cube with left hand.

Initially sir had asked everyone for the predictions . The open eyed person had set a target of 22. He succeeded in placing the 22 cubes. After reaching 25 plus one of the cube fell down so the game was UP.

Then came the more interesting part. 3 people had volunteered to do the blindfolded task. They had kept a target of 22 plus The blindfolded person  was assisted by another person who was giving instructions as to where to place the cubes . These two persons were supervised by another person. They had successfully completed placing the cubes.

In the first case while setting the target they had kept a target which could be achieved. The target was kept in mind bearing the capacity as to how many cubes could be placed. This tells about setting the target. The target should be set in such a way that, they are realistic and are achievable. Aiming for higher targets becomes cumbersome to achieve. At the same time setting lower tasks and achieving is also not a good indication. In the blindfolded  scenario, it gave a  replica as to what happens in the real world. The blindfolded person was synonymous to any other employee of the organization. The person assisting is synonymous to the manager of the organization who has been entitled to manage a set of resources under him and given targets to accomplish. Finally, the person who was supervising the entire activity and was interfering in the process occasionally to give them suggestions can be synonymous to the Top Management. This case primarily taught as to how the  efficiency and the strategies of the manager and the aligned work of worker would lead to achieving good results.

Learning in an Innovative Way

I had always wanted to do an MBA and getting in NITIE was like dream coming true. The starting days we were engaged in lot of fun activities and at the same time we were also enjoying the serene beauty of the campus in Mumbai Rains. Classes had started from 17th June and it was in a usual series of events like giving the introduction. But the class taken on second of the college by Dr. Prasad  was the one of the lectures which provoked me to think differently.

The teachings told made a good impact on me. In the start of the session he made us all sit on floor and it was a complete different experience. In the session, he had told us to ask any questions related to anything. Intially some general questions were asked but later on people started pouring questions on Mandi(An event initiated by Dr. Prasad).

He had shared about his experiences relating to the previous batches who had taken part in Mandi. This concept was very interesting. The concept of earn while u learn was the interesting part. It made a sense of gaining while learning. He gave insights of how "Dhanda" can be done out of education.

The interesting part was when he showed us the Newton's Cradle. It was made by a group of engineers. It exemplified how knowledge gained can be converted to innovation. Learned that gaining knowledge is not sufficient but applying it at a proper place with a proper use is required.

Also the ball with the globe imprinted  set an example of Learn while you Play.
These are few of the learning's which I learned in the session.
Looking forward for more sessions with Dr. Prasad.

Till then Keep Reading :) :)
